Isla Mujeres is a small island in Quintana Roo, located just 20 minutes from Cancun, with beautiful beaches of fine sand and transparent waters. People come here mainly to relax on Playa Norte, considered one of the best beaches in the world, but also to snorkel and dive in the second largest reef in the world.
- Garrafon Park The Garrafon Natural Park is a must see in Isla Mujeres as it offers a beautiful place to relax and various activities.
The beaches of Isla Mujeres tend to be overcrowded and the great advantage of Garrafon is that it offers a much quieter and more exclusive alternative.
It is a small private beach that is accessed by paying an entrance fee (the basic one starts at 1,300 pesos) that gives access to lounge chairs, umbrellas, 3 zip lines, a pool facing the sea, kayaks, and snorkeling equipment.
It is an ideal place to practice diving, since Garrafon is part of the longest coral reef in the northern hemisphere and is home to a rich ecosystem.
You can also just relax on the hammocks between the palm trees and there is a restaurant.
- Garrafon de Castilla Right next to Parque Garrafón is its cheaper, much less crowded and quieter version: Garrafón de Castilla.
Of course, you do not come here if you are looking for great luxury, but it is the perfect option to visit Isla Mujeres on a budget. It's a simple beach club that offers the same great waters for swimming or snorkeling, a restaurant, and the basic facilities you need to have a good time (loungers, lockers, showers).
- Explore Punta Sur South of Isla Mujeres is Punta Sur, the highest point in the Yucatan Peninsula.
It is an essential place to visit in Isla Mujeres for its magnificent views of the sea, its Sculpture Park with 23 outdoor sculptures, and the ancient temple dedicated to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon and fertility.
It is accessed through the Garrafón Natural Park, along a beautiful path facing the Caribbean Sea.
- Relax on one of the best beaches in the world Year after year, Playa Norte continues to appear in the list of the 10 best beaches in the world of the Travelers Choice awards.
When you see its white sand and its calm, warm and shallow waters, you will understand why!
In fact, the water is so shallow that you can walk about 200 meters into the sea without being over your waist.
It is a 1 km long public beach with different sections. There is a quieter part with restaurants (instead of bars) that is the ideal place if you travel to Isla Mujeres with your family.
It is a very touristy beach and fills up quickly in high season, but it is also one of the widest beaches in Mexico (100 m wide), so you won't feel overwhelmed by the crowd like in other places.
